Sometimes in football, as in life, you have to simply face up to something you’d rather not face up to. This was a game where we were beaten 4-0 and, if truth be told, the scoreline could have been worse but for a couple of impressive stops from Jack Spurling.
In recent days both Kevin O’Donnell and Ian Watson have lamented the fact that against Brentwood and Bracknell we may have put in decent displays in the early stages but faded badly in the second half, losing 1-0 leads and coming away with nothing from 3-1 defeats. Today was no different. A below-par performance in a goalless first half ended with nothing and defeat that brings the goals against column to 10 in three games.
Despite the cold, windy conditions, The Goldstar Ground still attracted a healthy 341 fans who were hoping that a return to winning ways would see The Seasiders consolidate a healthy mid-table position. As it turned out, we have slipped to 12thplace with one or two people perhaps glancing over their shoulders at the lower regions of the league table.
Next Saturday sees a short trip to Maldon and Tiptree for what will no doubt be a tricky game against a side currently sitting in third spot following their 2-1 win at Basildon on Saturday. As is always the case, there will most certainly be plenty of Seasiders who will follow the team to Essex looking for a turnaround in fortune. The players won’t be satisfied with recent form either and will certainly be eager to get back to winning ways.
